In Churintzio, Michoacan, Mexico near what I whimsically call "Cemetery Pond" got great looks virtually simultaneously of a trilogy of a quartet of pretty pretty pretty orioles- a male orchard (lifer), 2 male Black-Vented (lifers), and a male Streak-Backed (a relatively steady companion).

A stunner of a day today which started with the star bird in Britain today.

My latest lifer was the Eastern Crowned Warbler at South Shields, in County Durham.

For the first time in many months I managed a whole weekend birding, culminating in yesterdays visit to Stanwell Moor, near Staines for my latest Lifer, the Brown Shrike.

That is also the best week for as long as I can remember with three lifers gained in Britain in that time.

Eastern Crowned Warbler after leaving Scilly a day early and driving all night - well worth both things!

Congratulations on some nice lifers! I could use a lifer- with luck I will finally get Sulphur-rumped Tanager this weekend when I guide a group in southeastern Costa Rica. That bird is long overdue for me but it seems to be truly uncommon.

Male Pied Harrier on the Red River Island in Hanoi last weekend. Not a spectacular sighting (i am new in Hanoi, so still manage to get lifers even near the city) but quite a spectacular bird to see.
Siberian Rubythroat was the other lifer the same weekend, the above applies equally :)

In Patamban, Michoacan about 50 miles from where I live, on a walking/horse trail that took me ages to find, while thousands upon thousands of people in town were celebrating the flower laden and colorful festival of Cristo Rey, I had good looks at two lifers- a Plain-Capped Startthroat and a Bullock's Oriole.

My most recent lifers were Green-winged teal and Ring-necked Duck - and they were a fair few months ago...must get myself transport so I can see something a bit less tedious than either of them!

I forgot about this thread, so my update is a little late. In September, I got 333 lifers on a trip to Ecuador and Colombia. The last lifer was Apolinar's Wren in Bogota, Colombia, number 2213 on my Life List.

Excellent. I'm looking out for my first Curlew (well, I'm hoping to see one, I'm not actually doing much to increase my chances apart from keeping an eye on the river and fields)- I heard that a pair were seen flying down the river just a mile or so from my house recently so am hopeful that I'll see one at some point around here.

It's been a while since I posted, but this was a treat for me: Cerulean Warbler, Sept. 9 2009. And to top it off, he was in the shrubs off our driveway with a couple of Redstarts and a Red Eyed Vireo. It was a very nice way to start the day.

My most recent tick was rather banal - a House Crow at the Kinabalu fish market (Sabah, Borneo) a couple of weeks ago. Far more interesting ticks seen in the days prior to that included 3 species of hornbills, 3 species of pittas, and 3 species of kingfishers. The flying squirrels, primates and Slow Loris were also treats.

I fortunately managed to displace the feral House Crow from the most recent tick category with this obliging chap today.

Finally managed to catch up with some Two-barred Crossbills today, really great! Good day in all, got to see all three crossbill species you can see here. The Two-barred ones (one male and four females) were probably among the least shy birds I've ever seen... they were sitting just a few meters away eating rowan berries. Nice!

Yesterday at the first annual Yellow Rails and Rice Festival in Louisiana I added Virginia Rail, Sora, and Yellow Rail. I think I saw a King Rail too but I'm not certain so I'm not counting it.
