Today in Sparrows nest Park Lowestoft I saw the leaves of the perrenial, Sweet Violet (Viola odorata) had been affected by a gall. The outer edges of the leaves had become thickened & inrolled by the midge Dasineura odoratae. This is my first Suffolk record. V. odorata is the commonest of the violets & one often found in gardens. If this Gall is found on the leaves it could be a new county record for you as well.

If you think you have found it, & it is very distinctive, I would be pleased to confirm it for you. Just send me a pic.
