Hi,
I am thinking of purchasing the Fuji F11 with a view to digiscoping with the Nikon ED50 Scope. Can anyone tell me if the F11 will produce quality pictures or if there is a better Camera for the job?
Thanks

Hi Nessie and welcome to BirdForun from all the staff.
I've moved your thread to the digiscoping section as you should get more replies there. The Fuji F11 looks like it should be fine for digiscoping and should be capable of producing decent results. There are lots of other possible cameras for digiscoping, I'm sure you'll get some other recommendations.

Hi Nessie. I don't know too much about the F11 but it has been superseded by the F30 (which I use with an ED50), then the F31 and now the F50. I believe the F11 is similar to the others but lacks Aperture and Shutter Priority controls, which can be useful for digiscoping.
It really depends on how much you would be paying for the F11. At a low enough price it might be worth trying. The real problem with all the Fuji cameras is that they are not that easy to attach to the scope.
If I were starting again I would look seriously at the Nikon P5100 which has been getting some very good reviews on this forum and elsewhere. Nikon sell adapters which allow the camera to be attached to the scope easily. The downside is that it is probably quite a bit more expensive than the F11.

Thanks Ron,
does the universal attachment not work with the Fuji?

assuming the camera has a tripod mount a universal adaper shout work fine. They are not as stylish as the Nikon adapers, but they do the job just fine.

Yes, as postcardcv says, they are a cheap and effective way to start digiscoping. They are a little bulky and need careful alignment but do the job very well. The only slight problem with the Fujis is that the tripod socket is to one side of the camera, so it is easy to knock it out of alignment. That's not much of a problem, though.
