Another request for advice from those of you who are knowledgeable about digiscoping. At present I am using a Nikon coolpix 5200 with a Zeiss bracket and a Kowa tsn 660 scope with reasonable results, providing the operator is working properly!
I have a grand opportunity to receive a new camera for Christmas and, having read a great deal, it seems that the Nikon P5100 and the Canon G9 both are in the reckoning.
What are the advantages of RAW over JPEG. Is taking a picture any quicker with either, do you get the bird or the branch. What are your preferences please.

With my particular camera, Raw is pretty useless for digiscoping, as it will not allow continuous shooting, good for other types of photography though.
I have not tried ant of the cameras you are interested in, but by all accounts the P5100 is the most used and tested, the G series have large diameter lenses and are difficult to get vignetting free images. Ernie

Many thanks for the very useful information Ernie. Looks as if the Nikon may come out on top!
