I have been having problems with my D70 for 2 or 3 months now. When I switch it on I get the letters CHA on the screen and it won't work. I've heard that reformatting the card can help and did so with the camera. No success. Eventually last week I tried the card in an old digital camera I have and took a picture. I then put the card back in the D70 and it worked fine that day. Then back to the CHA message. I can solve the problem by putting the card into the old camera taking a pic and then putting it in to the camera. Anybody had a similar type of problem? Would a new card help?

Not had the problem but what card are you using, when I bought my D70s there was some news about Lexar cards being a little "iffy" with the D70, if you have a card with a lifetime warranty then I would contact the vendor. cha does appear to appear randomly until the card eventually stops working. If you can try it in other cameras and it works then best to call Nikon as well and see what there stance is, I imagine that Nikon would blame the card and the card vendor would blame Nikon.

It's a Kingston 1024 MB compact flash. I guess I'll haveto bite the bullet and buy another different card and if I get the same problem then maybe it is the camera-a bit worrying that it works OK in the old camera

I've had the same problem with my D70 for months now .
I thought at first that it was the card ( Sandisk extreme III) - so i went to Sandisk - and they gave me a brand new card . No questions asked . ( wtg sandisk ! )
But Allas !! the problem persists . It also exists in another card .
Looks like a camera problem .
I took the camera to the local Nikon dealer - and they could not find any problem( ! ?)
What i usually do when that happens - i switch the camera off, take out the card and reinsert it . Usually that solves the problem . But sometimes it demands a few "In-out " cycles before the camera returns to normal...Very frustrating .
