USB lead ..AARRGH

I'm trying to download some pics stored on my camera's internal memory, plugged in the USB lead and connected to my computer but nothing is happening? ..usually this happens automatically.

First off the obvious...

Have you tried rebooting?

Do the USB ports detect other devices ok?

Borrow a card reader ? Or give me a day or two and I will send you a new lead if you do not mind pm`ing me your address. I work in audio visual.

Recharging the batteries for an hour seems to have made a difference!!, all is well and I know have my pics!!

Glad to hear it Matt.

I hadn't realy thought about it before but would have assumed the USB port would supply enough power. I even thought some cameras could charge from USB!

You should always download photos in this way with fully charged batteries as if they fail whilst in the middle of downloading you may corrupt the card memory if not damage the camera. Quite possibly the camera shut down the process if there was insufficent power to complete the download from the internal memory.

Why are you storing on an internal memory? Why not on a CF or SD card (depending on your camera), and download using a card reader? I would never dream of downloading from my cameras (Canon 400D and 40D). Using Firewire (or if you don't have a Firewire port, USB2) is so very much faster, and their are no problems of camera batteries, or of the camera talking to the computer.
