I had the best day birding on Sunday in Galveston. I saw two sandhill cranes, northern harriers, merlins, kestrels, white tailed kites, red-tailed hawks, osprey, loons, white pelicans and many more. We knocked out many species off our list and my son(8 years old) can't wait to go again. Hopefully it will be nice next sunday.

I forgot to mention that we saw an northern harrier dive into the grass. We couldn't see what he caught but while he was down a white tailed kite started hovering above him. The harrier flew up and the two birds were fighting in the air for about 15 seconds until the kite flew away and the harrier when back to his meal. Hear are a few more pics.

Thanks for looking,
Lyndon

Hi Lyndon,

What some brilliant photos to bring home after a great day's Birding! Beautiful Osprey & Harrier shots and it's good to see the Lark, Phoebe, Crane and Carcara too. It's wonderful to see just what you get over there, thanks for the chance. All being well, you'll soon have another great Birder when he's older too, catch 'em while they're young they say, it's true too!

Thanks again Lyndon,

Sue.

have you reported / read the rings(bands) on the plovers legs?

I was wondering what the bands were for. Where do I report this?

Thanks,
Lyndon

i dont know where to report american bands but if you ask on the ringing banding subforum someone might tell you.
The bands are there so that organisations can track migrating birds and learn new information about them, every reported ring counts.
