Hi

Having read the interesting recent BF debate regarding the 100-400IS I am going to be purchasing one. I was going to buy one before reading it anyway, but reading lots of pro comments makes me more inclined....

Anyway, the point of this was to ask people where I can buy it from?

Do I buy it from Ebay? or Shop?

Now I remember reading something about a guy in Scotland who people recommended on Ebay? Do people know what price roughly?

I also know that the cheaper Ebay ones are imported. Do people know how the lens warranties stand on imports?

Ideally I would like to buy on ebay to save £100 or so. But if people don't think this is a good idea then I might have to go the warehouseexpress route unless people know of a cheaper shop?

Hope someone can help.

the chap in scotland trades on ebay as kerso, his first name is ian. if you email him direct he will make a discount for you as you can both avoid paypal charges that way.
if you send me a p.m. and your email i can do some research for you.
he has a good reputation on here and is a good honest chap. sorry so short a reply but i gotta rush to work 5 minutes ago!!!!!

You are referring to Kerso (Ian Kerr). I have bought several lenses from him at competitive prices. He has a ebay shop called 'flash Cameras' but if you contact him direct (kerso1123@msn.com) he will normally knock off a couple of %

I've also bought a couple of lenses from him without any problems, a good one to deal with. Warranty can be an issue with some imported lenses, but Kerso supplies them with the full Canon warranty.

If you want to buy in the UK then I'd recommend the shop in East Dereham (not too far from you). Price wise they are very competitive (often cheaper than WHE) and you'd be able to test the lens before buying it.

I had my 100-400mm from Ian Kerr as well and have just had a warranty repair through Canon so can vouch for all of the above.

Thanks everyone. You have been very very helpful indeed. But I guess that is what makes BF such a brilliant thing! Lots of nice honest people. Especially in the camera forum, it is refreshing to read after you visit the rare bird forum.... Always blo**y whinging about the fact someone took over 3 mins to report a bird after finding it!!!

OMG am I turning into a grumpy old man! Surely not at such a young age!

Also what is the name of the shop in East Derham?

All the best

Look at Calumet.

If you're happy with importing one, go to www.onestop-digital.com. I'll happily endorse them. I think the lens is around £750 all in from there and you don't get stung for import tax.

Jon,
I can also recommend Kerso ( Ian Kerr ) well worth contacting.
I believe there is a canon promotion on at present providing a cashback of £70 on this lens. Have a look on Warehouse Express site to read details.
If you do decide to buy via kerso his invoice will be valid for this cashback, but please check with Ian.

If you would prefer to buy from over here then try www.camerapricebuster.co.uk.I have also brought from Kerso and found him to be very trust worthy.

Jessops in Winchester did a price match for me. This is to shop prices nationwide, not web prices.

It does vary with them tho' - the Southampton store would not for example.

Handy if you prefer to shop locally - just in case of any subsequent issues and you want to go and see them?

Hi suffolk ringer - I have just bought a 100-400 from Emily and Lily on e-bay. Excellent service and delivery was quick. The stock is down as coming from Nottingham - whether they import it to there not sure. Paid £760 and worth every penny. Wouldn't hesitate about using them again. If you look at their feedback it's astounding how much gear they sell. Still not quite enough lens for me though (using 20D) for birding - thinking about getting the 1.4x converter next.

Hope you enjoy. Ian.
