I have gone back through old threads but can't find anything on this.
I am thinking of purchasing a remote for use in hides etc. There are some on ebay which look the part and are only £8.00 plus postage. The type I mean has a receiver that fits the camera and a separate 'sender'. It claims to work up to 100 metres although 5 will do for me. It claims to work with the 40D and virtually every other Canon.
My local dealer has something similar that costs £59.00 but might not work with 40D.
I am more than willing to support local dealers but this is a BIG price difference.
Does anyone know if the £8.00 from HKong will work ?
Any other suggestions appreciated.

I bought one from 7day shop.com for my 350d and it was £4.99 inc the battery!! It seems to work OK and they turned it round in no time.

Thanks Nick-Is this the same type I mention i.e. a reciever that plugs unto the camera and a separate 'sender' ? is so that seams a good bargain.

No it just uses the infra red port on the front of the 350d. I know it does a load of different models but I'm not sure if it covers the 40d or not. For some reason I can't access their website either !
Hope this helps

This sounds similar to what my dealer is offering but he doesn't know if it works with the 40D.
I've now ordered from HKong-£8.00 plus postage-I'll let you know if it works,

Hi Dave,
I bought one of the remotes you mention and they are excellent! i use mine all the time and the build quality is as good as the more expensive ones so save your cash buy one and if you don't like it then bung it on Ebay (it will easily sell) the infra-red ones are fine if you are facing the lens not behind it!, i used mine very successfully to shoot Day Bats (that's what we call Swallows up here) i set the camera on tripod on top of my studio roof and triggered it with the remote from quite a distance away!
Hope this helps
Cheers

Thanks for that-I wouldn't mind seeing one of those photos if you can upload one.
