I have been ogling the D300 for a while on the web, and had decided that when it eventually became available in Canada I would hopefully get one. On Friday, the owner of my local camera store said that another customer had pre-ordered one 3 months ago, and as it hadn't arrived yet, he got p....d off, pre-ordered one from a rival store, and canceled this one. One hour later it (surprisingly) arrived. So when I walked into the store there was a shiny new D300 for sale, and available to the first person willing to buy it - in this case, after some deep breaths and "I can't believe my luck" palpitations, - me.

So here are my first attempts, all jpegs out of the camera, with the only post-processing being a little light sharpening after downsizing for the web. and a slight increse in Clarity in Lightroom - No noise reduction, levels etc. The feel, use, playback screen, as well as the size of the manual, are awesome - and as far as I'm concerned, so far, so are the results.

Here are 3 images I took today, with my Tamron 200-500mm. lens, on the D300- and I'm still at the botom end of the learning curve.

Hello Richard

You may have read my earlier thread.
I am between the twixt with reference to the D200 & D300 - big gulp if I go for it?
These images look pretty good to me.
I am relatively new to bird photography but images like these amaze me.
Can you tell me how it performs when the sun does not shine as in the UK it is generally cloudy weather, especially in the winter?

Thanks gasjkh2

Hi,

I don't know yet, but as some of the shots yesterday were at ISO 1600 and they were still sharp and noise-free, I suspect it will perform very well.

Very nice shots. The detail on the White-breasted Nuthatch is impressive.

Congratulations on the fateful timing of the camera's arrival. Thanks for displaying your beautiful examples and I'm grateful you also provided the lens info. An impressive combo. Many thanks!

Y'all better stop talking up the D300 or I might have to sell my soul for one.

Noiseless at 1600 ISO is impressive.
