Canon 50 mm F 1.8 is best choice to lens, its ideal length.
Then you will need some step down ring, you can step down 52 to 28 and no vinjeting.

I have had some success using the Canon 400D together with the Swarovski ATS 80HD scope and the Swarovski TLS800, but I had a lot of trouble with exposure when I tried using the 50mm f1.8 lens
Attached is a shot taken with the TLS800 in Kowloon Park, Hong Kong

I am currently testing the Canon 50mm Mk1 lens with the Swarovski ATS 80HD scope & 20x EP. I will let you know how I get on
Attached a Robin shot taken at about 15M in poor light

I would go for the metal lens, provided the quality is equal with both lenses. I tried the plastic lens and it seemed a little fragile.
