View Full Version : Transferring Photos To Cd

I use a very simple way of storing/managing my photos i.e. click on 'Start' click 'my pictures' and go from there. When I've created a file of a batch of photos I make a CD which I use to get photos printed then save the CD as back-up. All has been well except this weekend. I'm trying to save a batch of c100 photos and the Wizard tells me "there was an error" and do I want to:

select a disc
delete files
save files and try again later.

It often tells me "there is no disc"! when I've just inserted one. A friend came to help and backed up the batch onto a memory stick and this plays back so that's OK. She thought the disc may be a faulty batch but I've used about a dozen from the same batch some time ago - I've tried to play back one of these and it plays back OK. She gave me one of her discs and I'm having the same trouble. When I ask it to "transfer files to a CD" it goes through the motions (showing a doc. going from one box to another)but won't finish off properly.

If any of this makes sense to anyone out there what advice can you give me? I don't want to download some complicated software if I can help it. I have Photo Project downloaded but don't use this as I find my system is so simple - when it works. And it always has done up to now.

Are you trying to add additional files to a CD you have already written some on earlier (i.e. a multi-session CD)? If so, even though it is supposed to be allowed, you can run into problems doing it. If you are using completely fresh, blank CDs each time, then it's hard to say.

Does your software have an option to "finalize" the CD after writing it? If so, try turning that option on. If not, then you are pretty much left at the mercy of the software over whether it closes the CD properly after you write to it. Closing it - finalizing - means that the CD cannot have anymore written to it, and for CDs that have MP3 music files, it means that the CD will be playable in a music CD player, not just a PC. It is really annoying that a lot of burning software does not let you control this. For example, the "light" version of Sonic Record Now has no such option, and most of the CDs I've written with it remain "open", which is less than ideal.

I am using a brand new CD each time - I have a stash of about a dozen that I have successfully written over the past few years and these are from the same batch. I'll investigate what you suggest about 'finalising' the CD - when I feel like going back in and looking at it. This may take some time as I have my latest photos safely on a memory stick now and can't be a***d with the aggro at the moment. I have some helpers that are willing to look at it for me after Christmas so will probably take them up on their offer.

Thanks for your reply.

You may just have one "corrupt" photo file in the batch you're trying to transfer?
