Just bought a Canon 400D and Sigma 170-500 lens and now need a Rucksac type carrier to keep camera and lens attached. Not sure, having looked through pages of reviews / ideas on what would be best. I may need to go on E-bay to obtain one as funds have almost run out, so any help and advice would be most gratefully received.

Cheers

probably best to state how much you wish to carry in one go, body, lenses, tri/monopod, flash, spares bits, filters, waterproofs, lunch etc

Cheers for the reminder, Steve. Probably body, lens (170/500), tripod, and waterproofs, snack. I do not have much else in the way of spares at the moment.

Does anyone think a Tamrac Epedition 5 might meet my requirements?

Hi Kevin,

I've got the expedition 7 and it's s super bag plus it offers a bit more room for all the clutter that you get (trust me)

Another vote for the Tamrac Expedition 7!

I used the Expedition 8 for a few years but don't go for such long hikes (needed the extra space for water, food, clothing) and find the next generation 7 perfect. On extended outings I use the shoulder D rings to support camera on it's strap - much appreciated rest for the neck!

I use a Tamrac Expedition 8 and am very impressed with it, a good deal more comfortable to carry than the Lowepro I had before. I would warn against buying a bigger bag than you need, you'll just fill it with stuff you don't really need and that's just weight on your back! Buy the smallest bag that will take all your gear.

I have the Expediton 5 and it's a great bag. However it's only just big enough (40D, 100-400 & standard lense etc.) and there is no where for waterproofs or drinks etc. Fortunatley my wife is normally with me so she carries drinks and waterproofs in her bag but it's something to consider.

Well you'll have to buy some more lenses to fill the extra space ..

I too have the Exp. 7, and it is very good. No-one mentioned that the big Tamracs (Exp 7 and 8) are much lighter than the Lowepro equivalents.

Hi Leif

My modest amount of camera equipment looks lost in the huge Exp.7 :-OHowever, hope to keep scope with it and once waterproof is added, it may fill out. Looks good and well made. Work has, however, prevented a field test. As for more lenses, well possibly, but at the moment I am a complete photographic novice, so they may be added with experience :t:

Room for a sarnie, and cake then!

I have a GPS receiver, right angle finder, extension tubes, flash, reflectors, diffuser, batteries, fungi collection containers and much more. Then there is a camera and a lens or two!
