A D60 - wow! :-C If they'd added an AF motor it might have been tempting but this appears to be little other than a D40x with a CMOS sensor. It seems that whilst the demand for the D300 continues to outstrip supply Nikon have little incentive to release an upgraded D80.

The reluctance to add VRII to the 300mm f4 or AF-S and VRII to the 80-400mm zoom is again strange.

It appears that Nikon are deliberately targetting the entry level and pro/semi-pro markets. The serious (or less wealthy) amateurs appear to have been abandoned.

The upgrade path for D200 users is fairly obvious. However for D50, D70 and D80 users the upgrade to a D300 is a real leap of faith considering Nikon's reluctance to upgrade their "serious amateur" lenses. Based upon recent history, commitment and their existing line-up an upgrade to Canon is tempting ;)

The first I heard of this camera was seeing an advert in the Times this morning. If the D60 offers good noise control like the D300, it'll be worth a look but if not, then I personally wouldn't bother.

I think you'll find it doesn't even have the CMOS sensor, still a CCD. Looked on warehouse, body only £449. Dangerously close to the D80 and I sure as hell know which one I'd rather have.
