Hi Folks
To complete year listing catch up report.
On the 1st Feb as I said in my bird ringing report I went to Llanos de Tabanos, and much to my delight as I drove across the "heathland" caught in my headlights 2 Barn Owls, new birds for this area.
They appeared close to an old abandoned finca so will take a look in the light to see if they are roosting there or even planning to breed, should be interesting, prob.go up there this afternoon as weather is still so good.
On the afternoon of the 1st.met some members of my local ringing group and took a look at a new ringing site close to Algeciras behind the local soccer pitch. It is a huge private site that we have been given permission to set up a ringing station in,so we were there to suss out where best to start cutting out lanes.
Lots of mixed habitat here, wild olive groves, old orange orchard,Med.scrub, riverside veg.and it is sited along the banks of the Rio Palmones which flows into the Bay of Gibraltar.
Lots of birds around incl.a Caspian tern.
House Martins arrived in our local port on 30th.Jan.,and saw tthe first today at Los Castillos
So year list is well ahead of last year now standing at 143
Cheers for now
Ricardo
