I finally got around to trying out my Nikon 20 mm lens on the D3. Wow. I had forgotten what wide angle was. Here are a couple of snaps taken yesterday with it using f16. Neil

I'm going round taking shots with my 18-35 and as you say it's great to have a wide angle back again. Trouble is I'm missing my 18-200DX lens which I used on my D200/D300. It's a great all round lens but being DX is doesn't work properly on the D3. I'm lusting after the new 24-70 but I cant afford that just yet or I'll have to answer to she who must not be named.

I know how you feel as I've got the 18-55 DX which I used on the D2x and have also used on the D3 in DX mode. Neil.

Outboard - interested in why you think the Tamron "sucks". Whilst it has some limitations, I've found this can deliver some great images. What is it they say about "a workman blaming his tools"?!

As I assume you own D200, D300 and the D3, I find your final sentance quite amusing! ;)

Sorry. It was to wind up rezmole. I actually think the Tamron 200-500 is probably a very useful piece of equipment as many people speak very highly of it.

I'll the remove the offending sig forthwith.

we're having a discussion on our board (http://www.thereeftank.com/forums/f75/camera-poll-102370-2.html) about what wide angle lenses are best to use for underwater photography with compacts, with regular cameras, doesn't matter. A lot of users there are you know, neophyte kind of photographers, most of the people using Canon and Nikon. Are there any products you think offer something to the aquarium enthusiast that maybe we just haven't had the exposure to? Does anyone have any specific experience? Of course, we have to take the lighting and water refraction into consideration, as well as the desire to capture the color in as most vivid a way as possible. Do you think the D3 is appropriate for this? Thanks.

how is it with catching movement? does anyone have any experience with using it through water and glass on large scale aquariums?
