Help on accessing photo files

Wondered if anyone can help me out. Spent some time photographing bearded tits at the weekend. After taking about 200 shots and feeling pretty chuffed,:king: I downloaded pics to computer to find that 6 files ( a selection from right in the middle ) had somehow re-named themselves and now are impossible to look at on the computer.:C They will copy but won't open and the code under them reads DSC[001 as opposed to the regular DSC 001. They are viewable on the camera and can be zoomed etc. but no images apart from icon appears on the hard drive. :-C Have tried sending to mobile, bluetooth etc. with no success. They will print off a printer thats takes memory cards but as sods law decrees, they are the best of the photos, almost as though someone had selected them.:eek!:
Can anyone tell how to get them on my computer or how to change name or transfer, also why this may have happened.
It is a Nikon D70 camera with a Sandisk Ultra II 4 GB card.

You should be able to rename them yourself, to what you like, but do not alter the extention ... are they in RAW or JPEG format?

One small posibility is, there may be a 'glitch' on the card ... |:(|

If there viewable on the camera I assume that there still on there, if so move the 1st downloaded set to another directory and then reload the originals. I assume your using picture project, if so you can leave the originals and under the options tab change the name of the pictures so when you download them again they can go in the same directory.
PS if you are connecting the camera to the pc an extreme 4 card won't produce better download speeds as the D70 and s are restricted to USB 1 speeds which is slower than the write speed of an extreme 4 (found this out on my D70 a while ago), will only benefit if connected to a reader via a USB 2 or firewire port.

The files are JPEG and then when downloaded and I try to rename, a box comes up with cannot rename as can't read file. So not sure how to rename another way.

Hi dont know how your downloading your pics if you are downloading stright from the camera then try a card reader as the one in the printer works if you are using a card reader to download can you try conecting camera with lead straight to the computer i dont know if the nikon does this but would think you could ope this makes sense to you

Dave picture project allows you to rename the files at the point of transfer, are you using picture project or another way such as a card reader?
