View Full Version : Chronological storage?

My Panasonic FZ 8 allows setting different date formats, including the sequence y/m/d. However, when I store the pictures on my computer, the format is always d/m/y. This results in non-chronological storage as 1 Feb will be followed by 1 March (01022008, then 01032008). When it should be 2 Feb (02022008) etc first. So how do I get an automatic storage in the y/m/d format?
Is this a problem of the Lumix Simple Viewer which I use to load the pictures to the computer? My simpler Casio cameras seem to be able to do it right.

I just had a look at my Lumix simple viewer and all the pics are stored in the correct date order.
I'm wondering if it is that you only have a couple of months pics on there and need to change the *recording date*; it's the third button from the left at the top.

Hi John,
I don't have such a button! Or, more specifically, there is no top row of buttons. I have been using my camera since last July. Could it be that I have an old version of the program?
I have changed the recording date format in the camera long ago, but it does not reflect on the downloaded pictures.

There are many programs that can do this for you, some free ones, some commercial. Downloader Pro is excellent, but hunt around for yourself and see what you like.

Hallo Swissboy

Hi wasch12,
Welcome to BirdForum! I think we should keep it English here on the Forum. But German would be fine in any PM! However, I'm afraid I can't help you at this point as this is exactly the reason I opened the thread. And I have not gone into searching specific programs. I still hope someone can tell me how it can be done directly using the software provided with the camera. Or any potential update by Panasonic. PANASONIC are you listening?

I've had mine since about October 2007.
Here's a screengrab of the viewer, is yours not like this?

Hi John,
Yes it's like this on the supplied viewer program. However, I want to store my pictures in different folders, like for separate trips or family members. And it's pretty annoying there to have the dates mixed up, e,g. when you want to see your grandchild grow up chronologically. Or different places one visits on a trip being mixed virtually at random. Even mixing different years for repeated visits.
