Even with winter here in Ontario, Canada we have a Rufous HummingBird visiting a feeder.It was last sighted this am even with the temp being at -7 C, the bird appears active and healthy. The owner of the feeder has put a heat lamp next to it to keep it from freezing.

Hi JTF

did some birding in Ontario incl. Kingston (I think we had a curry and some cans of a peculiarly British beer called Newcastle Brown there - it was just like being at home)
into November a few years back and remember it was bloody cold then.
Lovely country though esp up into Algonquin etc.
Hope your little hummer survives the cold.......

Those vagrant Rufous seem to be spreading about more and staying longer every autumn! About a week ago, there was a poster from Kentucky reporting (with picture) of a Rufous in his area.

This year is the first time I've ever heard of them as far north as Kingston in DECEMBER!

Your right, were hoping we see it again to include in the christmas bird count, a first for here.
