Hi Pete
The camera is not the newest model but is easy to use and takes good pics, see Richard Bonsers website, all pics taken handheld
Settings 2 settings to use -
"ASR" setting this can be used handheld, make sure you keep your hands perfectly still when you take the pic as it is processing after you press the shutter, settings are on Auto, so ISO speed is chosen by the camera not you,
"P" Setting, go into the "Menu" central circle on the R/H side of the camera, and set the following -
Size - i normally set it on 6mp, again your choice
Quality - Fine
Metering - Spot
Shooting - Continous or single, your choice
Sharpness - normal
Autofocus - Center AF
Make sure you switch the flash setting off, this can be done by keep pressing the "lightning" symbol down a few times until you see the lightning symbol on the R/H side of the screen with a line through it
Other settings - there are 3 small silver buttons on the right hand side of the screen, choose the middle one, and can be adjusted by using the metal circle around the "menu" button as a joystick to change settings, be care ful not to change the actual setting s on the circle, macro, flash, timer etc
exposure, take it on zero exposure first if the pic is bleached - then adjust to -0.5 or -0.1 on really bright sunny days, take a pic and play back and see what it needs, this can also be used in dull weather to increase shutter speed, you can always lighten in "Levels" in your software
white balance, Sunny day - use sunny symbol, cloudy day - use cloudy symbol, it can make a difference sometimes in getting the true colour of the bird, try it, auto can be ok sometimes,
ISO settings, set on the lowest ISO 80 and only increase if conditions are dark and you cant get sharp pics so need to increas your shutter speed, otherwise leave it on 80,
SRB Griturn do an adapter specifically for this camera its good but aint cheap
Hope this helps?
Rgds
Paul
