And a merry christmas to you too Euan and to everyone else. Fifebirder will be heading south of the border to the beautiful East Midlands and is licking his lips at the thought of Marsh Tits, Nuthatches and maybe even Lesser-spotted Woodpecker.
Here's to a bird-filled 2004.

Maybe, although more likely to Pitsford or perhaps Eyebrook. I'm also looking forward to those lovely gravel pits in the Nene valley and a few Yellow-legged Gulls (or maybe a 'Caspian').

A Merry Christmas to you, Euan, and Happy Hannukah and Happy Zwanzaa and Merry Solstice to those celebrating those festive days!
I'll leave on the morning of the 24th for my sister's (she has a big crafting thing planned for us that afternoon -- weaving!). We'll (sister, brother-in-law and me) will open presents that night.
Christmas morning, while they sleep in, I'll head out to Muscatatuck NWR, about 20 miles away, which I have done on Christmas morning for about 8-10 years now. And I love it -- there might be 3-4 other people on the refuge, but I'll essentially have it to myself for the morning. Hope the eagles are up!
On the 26th, we'll go further in southern Indiana to do the family thing with the remaining aunts and uncles, and various cousins and their families. My uncle Fred has promised me two things: a surprise mystery tour of some sort, and a visit to a small cave called Baynes Spring, which none of us even knew about until I stumbled upon the name while browsing for something-or-the-other one day. Turns out the cave is on property homesteaded by my g-g-g-grandfather in the 1840s! The property is no longer in the family, so I should remind him, I guess, of his promise, as I'd LOVE to check this out. Guess it's a very small place, but I'm mightily intrigued by it all.
Christmas is very special -- the orchestra closes down (thank you, musicians' union!) and I'll be off work from noon on the 23rd til Monday the 5th!
And I'll return to my sister's on New Year's Eve in order to do the Christmas Bird Count at Muscatatuck on New Year's Day. Just hoping for better weather than a year ago, when it was 36 degrees and blowing rain! ICK! Brrrrrr!
I send my warmest regards to everyone on the forum!

I will head for my local nature park on Christmas Day, perhaps may have it all to myself, for the morning at least. Maybe the Green Woodpecker will turn up and treat me with my getting a photo of him.
Merry Christmas to everyone and all have a great New Year.

My wife and I watched our video of "A Christmas Carol" last night, the 1951 version. We did have some snow a few days ago, but it is all gone now, so I do not think we will have a "white Christmas" this year. This morning I am going down to the lake south of town to see the Trumpter Swans which are "hanging around". They are unusal in our area and a treat to see.
Merry Christmas to all and a Happy (Bird Filled) New Year.

I have just filled the feeders for Christmas morning, the local Greylags have just flighted out to the grazing fields near where I live. The Christmas lights are on in the house, my daughter and grandson are here from Norfolk. I am about to have a nice large "Black Bush", have a nap and dream of Santa coming. To all Staff, Members and Guests to our very special Bird Forum have a peaceful and enjoyable Christmas and exciting birding in 2004.......More geese going over as nightfall comes!!
