Have found a dead jackdaw in the grounds where I live (in the EX5 area of Exeter near Clyst St Mary). Corpse is intact with no sign of external injury; found it last night and it is still there this morning under a hedge. Is this a cause for concern - should I notify RSPB or anyone else, or just leave it?
This is only the first dead bird I've found here before.

Like us, birds die for many reasons: Old age, sickness, injury etc, some natural, some not. With only one dead bird, its no cause for concern, just leave it for the scavengers.

Hi
Just seen your message. I remember a number of years ago finding 2 dead Magpies - no obvious injury, under a hedge - they were a little distance apart.
I took them to a local agricultural college near Lincoln - the birds were sent off for analysis - and I got a report back that they had been poisoned by some agricultural poison/chemical - can't remember what is was I'm afraid.
This could be the case with your Jackdaw, particularly if you live in an area where there are gaming interests. Then again the bird could have just died from natural causes. Best wishes.
Richard
