I've got the chance to take a few days off at the end of May without the rest of the family- No kids! The question is where to go? Ideally, I'd like to have a good look at an area with a variety of habitat within a fairly small area (say 20 mile radius) so that I can stay somewhere central.
If anyones got any ideas, then I'd very glad to hear them. Thanks in advance.

At that time of year, I'd go for either North Norfolk or Speyside.

Andy,
Why not try a short break to a European City?
I've always wanted to go to Prague or Warsaw...imagine the birding in the countryside around either of those places in May.......drool.

Why not come to Lowestoft. Over 100 species can be found in the Lowestoft District during this month There is plenty to see from Sea birds to passerines all within a few miles of the town.

North Norfolk coast, anything could turn up, but its just as good when the megas are not there.

I'd agree with ColinJ and Bluetail - Suffolk or Norfolk is suberb for reserves and just finding your own birds. I've done day trips to Suffolk - Minsmere, Benacre, Walberswick etc - so for a few days there's a lot you could cover. I'd stay in a pub and enjoy a few pints of Adnams in the evenings!

If I'd ever win the Powerball, Jason ($170 MILLION last night!), I'd join you there!
As it is, the poorer among us head to Crane Creek State Park in NW Ohio, along the Lake Erie shoreline. It's just south across the lake from Pelee, and the warblers will 'stage' there, preparing for their flight across the water. It, too, can be fabulous for warblers -- as is all the Erie shoreline in that area. It's about 2 1/2 hours closer than Pelee, and still in this country.
