Spent a couple of hours on my local patch today, round on the northern shore of Breydon Water on what was a mainly sunny day but with a chilly wind blowing up the river. The peace & quiet heightened by there being no-one else about whatsoever (yes, ok lets forget about the main road for a minute ....).
With a few things having taken precedence over birding for a couple of months it was my first outing for a while, the resulting rustiness obviously being the cause of my leaving home without pen & paper to write anything down. Anyway from memory most numerous were the Lapwing but there was plenty else to have a look at among the gulls, waders & plovers etc; Dunlin & Redshank on the mud with Avocet & Black Tail godwit in slightly deeper water, one or two Curlew and among the ducks; an assortment of Mallard, Teal, Pochard & what probably totalled 60 or 70 elegant Pintail. Over towards Berney, a short view of a single Marsh Harrier lifting the flocked ''crows'' into a large spotted cloud, and a couple skeins of geese away over yonder.
Nothing spectacular and I guess it's much the same as could be seen in many other places today, but well appreciated again after a bit of a break.
And back home early- afternoon for a steaming bowl of homemade vegetable soup.
