I am almost ready to plunge into the heady world of digiscoping, after seeing what a friends CP2100 could do with my scope (Optolyth TBS 80) i have had a look at two models that would suit my pocket and ability.

1/ Coolpix 4300
2/ Coolpix 3100

Has anyone any experience with these cameras and my scope?
Any potential problems with these cameras?
I am a dude as far as cameras are concerned be gentle with me, i am looking for a fairly simple to use beast, and will probably start with hand held and see what occurs.
Will these cameras take a shutter release?

Hope someone can help me.

Brian.

Hi Cuddy,I can't offer much help, other than to say I have a CP4300 and it is a good general camera in my opinion.I didn't buy it for Digiscoping, but have posted a few pics taken hand-held with my LeicaApo62 scope and they're reasonable enough.
I'm sure Andy Bright did some tests with the 4300 a few months back,so a Forum search may prove productive.
I understand that to use a proper digiscoping adaptor,a step-down ring adaptor is required;also,it does not have a swivel monitor like the 4500.
It will take a shutter release.
Good luck with your final choice.
