There were a number of birders watching this bird for a while, after it flew we were all going to leave, I was happy with the images I had obtained but since all were going I decided to wait for the bird to reappear, it duely did within a few minutes. I watched where it was moving towards, moved into position and waited, sure enough it came closer, and closer.
The picture below is of me and was taken by Steve Blain, the inset is what I was shooting at the time!, the bird came even closer, to the point that it was within my minimum focus distance, and possibly as close as 3 feet. Just the two of us had stunning views for a very long time, and when some more birders arrived the American Robin stayed, even allowing another photographer to join me. It was pretty exciting to say the least!

Nice to read a little of the background to your excellent capture.
Is the American Robin usually as tame as this or do you think that after it's marathon flight, all sense of danger has left it and it's just thankfull of soil under it's feet again?

Living in the USA I can vouch for their lack of shyness. They will frequently continue their "worming" within 5>6 feet of me while I am cooking on my back deck.

Maybe it got used to being around people on the ship it hitched a ride on!

Thanks for the extra info Nigel, it's nice to read of how a shot was obtained :t:

Interesting shot,Nigel, maybe the American Robin is as cheeky as our Robin, and just loves to be the centre of attention. This litle chap looks quite non plussed, looks as though he is actually posing for the camera

Nigel,

You have 'done' both American robins now. Was the Grimsby bird as accommodating at this one in question?

Hey Nigel, I will trade you 10 house sparrows for this robin. I have yet to see a robin this year.

I think the Robin was a little star struck himself , I bet he couldn't believe his luck having his picture taken by a TV star... "the man who made a UFO".
I don't know what I enjoy looking at more, Nigels photos or his TV appearances, both are great.

Well Steve, what can I say !!!!, I prefer seeing my pix, seeing myself 'on the telly' made me cringe with embarrassment!

I'd noticed that the Hayle robin hasn't been reported fore a few days now. I was told this morning by a reliable source with good local connections that it was taken by a Sparrowhawk.
