10 Barnacle Geese among the carpet of ducks and waders on Breydon Water early this morning, just after dawn.
Further upriver at the castle, on what was a very still morning with only the merest hint of breeze - 1 Marsh Harrier (female), 1 Merlin, 4 Little Egret, 15+ Bearded Tit at the front of the reeds, jumping from stem to stem & climbing up to eat the top seedy bit. The pig like sound coming out of the reeds I guessed to be a Water Rail but couldn't see it.
And 2 Egyptian Geese up a tree near the churchyard.
A Very nice start to 2004. 45 species in total & a few either-or's
