Is there any lens cap for Canon EF 500mm f/4 IS USM that is similar to the ordinary lens cap of smaller lenses? The leather lens cap that came with the lens is annoying.:C Thanks

I use one from Don Zeck on my 600 F4L, looks a bit hand made, but thats becasue it is :) does the job though and is far less annoying !

I also use the Zeck cap, on my 500. It's a must-have accessory as far as I'm concerned.

Try using a (white) plastic lid available from CORNINGWARE - their code number is V-16-PC or F-16-PC. You can buy them from any CORNINGWARE SHOP in most Outlet Malls in the USA. Don't know about rest of World.

They are a perfect fit and if I remember correctly were on offer at 2 for $1.50

I am using this for both my 500mm f/4.0 and 300mm f/2.8
I find it very convenient and it is light.

The is the Hoodie Lens Cover from LensCoat.

I have a neoprene hood hat in addition to the Zeck lens cap. The hood hat is good, but often I'm out shooting eagles in the winter. The best weather for that is when it's quite cold and the rivers freeze (we're talking below 0F temps). The hood hat is not easy to get back on the lens when you're wearing gloves. The Zeck cap, on the other hand, is easy to work with in those conditions. Its disadvantage is that it's big and if you don't have a large pocket or somewhere to put it, there's that to deal with.

The ebay guy can get a larger size to fit the 500/f4 - just message him. I think the very largest for the 600/f4 is only available from naturescapes.
