Hello
I'm visiting relatives this weekend and will be in Marbury Park Saturday morning. Can anyone tell me if the Lesser Spotted Woodpecker is still around? It would be a great lifer tick for me, (not to mention one up on my other half as he's not coming!) didn't see it the last time I was there although, we were guided to a possible nesting site. I just need to know if it's still around.
Thanks
Joanne

Me again,
Is there anybody here that goes to Marbury CP? I'm there again this weekend and I'm hearing reports of a Hawfinch?
Thanks
Joanne

Brilliant, thanks for letting me know. I hope to be there on Saturday/Sunday. Is there any sign of the Lesser Spotted Woodpecker?

All three woodpeckers are possible with a bit of luck, plus Water Rail and Bittern too.

I was at Marbury country park last weekend Feb 15th and was lucky enough to see a great spotted woodpecker, didn't see any lesser spotted, infact, if i can get one attached, my daughter caught a decent pic of it on the nut hanger!
Please remember this picture was taken with a Fuji S5000 Digi with digital zoom, hence the slight blurring, and also by a 15 year old!
I did catch a pic with my brand new Sony A350 DSLR but i am sorry to say my daughters was better !! lol

All three woodpeckers spotted this weekend. Plenty of Greater spot tusseling for territory, plus a good long sighting of the leesser (male).

Bornwild,
The best time to visit Marbury is due the spring (March-May) when Lesser Spots are more easily seen.
