New model out from Canon http://www.dpreview.com/

Frankly it doesn't appear to be much different from a 400D but continues the lower end range trend of SD cards. A real pain when it comes to upgrading in the future as you have to then get CF cards.

Regards all.

I hadn't heard anything about that new camera. Did anyone else of have I for the first time ever let a rumour slip by?!!
I guess they'd be looking to compete with the D40 and cheaper Olympus etc. models.
Not quite sure who the market would be there though, the people that want cheap DSLRs buy the cheap Canon/Nikons anyway and the people who want the bridge cameras buy the G9 and so on. Still, they know more about their market research than I do so my opinion is null and void!

I read this article and went to check it out on dpreview, they haven altered it much but what i carn't get over is the price. If you check it with calumet it is £499.00 so how is it cheaper. On the same site their selling the 40D for the same price with the rebate. So if i was to get another then i'de go for the 40D,gives you more options and solider.I would have thought the price would have been around the £399.00 mark to under cut the oposition.

the pricing is odd.

i had assumed it would be under the 450d in price given that in raw it only is 1.5fps

if the price is right it will sell. The nikon d40 sells well based on its price, despite some people complain about the lack of backward compatability with lenses.

I agree.

These must surely be the RRP's and will doubtlessly be less when it's available at the end of July. I'd say it should be £399 with kit lens and replace the 400D to make it competitive. That said though it must have a better sensor (truly usable high ISO) otherwise it's a waste.

Oh and Keith, a lot more people have Pentax's and Olympus's than you might think, especially if you don't need massive telephotos.

I think you will find that Canon (and the other manufacturers too) phase CF cards out as they release new models further up the food chain. Before too long, the only CF-equipped cameras will be the Canon pro models (which, of course, have long had SD slots as well as CF).

Of course, I could be wrong. I hope I'm wrong, as I certainly prefer CF, but put your money on SD.

Sample images now available on dpreview. Looks very promising indeed, esp. the 1600 ISO shots.
