My CoolPix 4500 starting making all sorts of strange clicking and clunking and wurring sounds when I turned it on yesterday morning. Its only 6 months old so I took it off to Currys where I bought but they refused to touch it and insisted I had to phone the help-line number (national rate not premium rate fourtunatly), but has anyone else had this sort of problem and if so do you have any idea as to what's causing it please?

Firstly, if Curry's sold it to you then they are legally obliged to do something about it - your 'contract' under the sale of goods act (or whatever it's called) is with them. This assumes, of course, that there is a fault with the product rather than obvious damage or mis-use by you.

This has nothing to do with extended warranties, etc., goods must be of 'merchanable quality' and do the job they are meant to do - they're not supposed to break down after 6 months!

Adding to that, all goods purchased in UK are covered for 12 months by the seller, arent they?

Thanks for your replies guys.

Yes, that's what I thought tracker. I even poited out that there's something in the info they give out at the time of sale that says it has to go back to them ... but still no go. All the manager would say is that if it needs to be sent off to be repaired then I had to arrange it through the help-line. said was It's not the end of it though. I will phone the help line tomorrow (its closed today) and then I sahll pay a visit to CAB and see what they have to say about it. To say I'm not happy is understatement.

Hi Ron,

Just make sure you can get together all receipts and other necessary documents as proof of purchase.
