Hi there,
I've just started using RAW on my 40d. After opening and editing in Elements 6,what's the best format to save pics in? And why ?

Personally I keep the original RAW files for all my keepers, for printing/web work I convert to jpg.

As Postcard says save web versions as Jpgs, if you have the space save the print ones as Tiffs. Print and Web photos often need different post processing. Print may need more sharpening and adjustments of the black and white points.

Definitely save the Raws but it might be worth converting them to DNGs as they retain all the Raw editing capabilities but are small and store all your Raw edits in the file rather than as Sidecar files.

Is shooting in RAW better for sharpness in the camera ?

Hi Mike,

I keep all the good raw files in a folder for each year & call them Raw keepers 2007, 2008 ect, Then just Convert them into the jpg format in Lightroom or DPP, then tweek & crop in photoshop.
