Have read the thread about Ambleside, which was helpful ..thanks to those who posted.

Cumbria's best kept secret can be found here (http://www.linskeldfieldtarn.co.uk/index.htm). It's not unusual to have the hide to yourself but avoid mid-day as the hide faces south. Early mornings are good for otters too.

Strandshag Bay on Derwentwater has a good heronry and can have interestin waterfowl at times. Calfclose Bay has otters (early morning again) and you can see the cormorants on the rocks opposite. There's every chance of buzzards across the lake and peregrine from Falcon Crag on the east side.

Talkin Tarn can be worth a visit and the sea birds at the St Bees cliffs are superb (along with the resident perigrines and occasionally raven). Harbour porpoise and bottlenose dolphin are frequently visible with the incoming tide providing the wind is <F4.

If you want to see red squirrels during your visit I'll be happy to supply some site information but most of it is covered in this thread (http://www.birdforum.net/showthread.php?p=1244962#post1244962).

Hope you have a great visit to Cumbria.
