Found a little book in .pdf form for anyone interested:

'In a Cheshire garden - natural history notes"
Written by Geoffrey Egerton-Warburton, published in Manchester in 1912, the book consists of extracts from The Warrington Guardian.
I've only had time to flick through it, but it may be of interest to those who live in the area.

Jonathan,
Fantatastic! My local patch 100 years ago...
A dozen Cuckoos in a single day in May, Hawfinch nesting in my local hall, Waxwing Hobby & Hooded crow shot at Dunham, Corncrakes "common" etc.
I shall be perusing at leisure.
Thanks very much. Are you local to Lymm?

Not really - in fact only just in Cheshire - Lowton St Marys, near Pennington Flash. I was looking for a book called 'Autumns in Argylshire' (which has also been reproduced as a pdf on the site) for a present for a relative when I stumbled upon the site. Try a few searches - some interesting old books.
Cheers

Many thanks for finding this gem of a book. My patch is Northwich so its local for me and passed on my way to work (Trafford Park) every morning and evening. Lovely to read about past times. Noted they put feeders out (feeder stand) over a hundred years ago but no mention of digiscoping!!!!! Kind regards Andrew

Just picked upon this-very nostalgic-maybe someone will be reading Halftwo's thoughts in a 100 years!!
Did you spot the reference to "white Robins".....appropriate in the light of recent posts on BF.

I spent a few moments at the church and surrounding area. Its a lovely peaceful place. I have added a couple of photos to show not a great deal of change. No sign of the sundial though.
