Hi,
My name is Binnie...sorry I havent got time for all the introductions etc...but need some advice if there is anyone out there who knows anything about feral pigeons.
This year i started feeding wild birds..and now have quite a host of feral pigeons who i feed morning and evening...they are very wary as I have a cat..although very fat and not likely to get them...however this evening when I went downstairs a young pigeon was in my kitchen in the cats water bowl. She didnt appear scared...and we gently coaxed her back outside without any ruffled fearthers at all...however..Steve picked her up and launched her but she just came back down.....then just wandered about the garden for about 30 mins. I was able to simply pick her up again...put her in a large open box on its side so she could walk out if she wished and put her under our porch as I think she was trying to shelter from the rain. Left her there with some food and shredded papaer...3 hours later...she is still there. Have now put her in the shed for the night as she would be easy prey for all the neighbour hood cats. She doesnt look ill......shall I just wait to see if she wants to leave in the morning?

Hi Binnie and welcome on behalf of the Staff and Moderators

We have guidelines for you here (http://www.birdforum.net/showthread.php?t=76466). Perhaps leave it quiet in the box overnight (water is more important than food at this stage) then get professional advice in the morning if things are no better.

Good luck and let us know the outcome please

Hi Robin, morning Delia,
Well, I let my pigeon out this morning at about the same time the others were on the roof gathering for their feed...thinking that she may be able to join them ..but no luck....she definately cant fly. She also lets me pick her up too easily....sitting duck really.....she waddled about on the lawn...drank some water....then immediately made her way to my back door again. The right wing is definately being held lower than the left but she can extend it.......I have had a better look and cant see any damage from a cat etc...I think that she came down with the rest yesterday and you know what they are like..every tiny movement will get them flapping up and away...and sometimes in their haste they hit my washing line.....and I suspect she may have hurt her wing then.
My vet...or RSPCA.....???? or does any one know anyone local to Exeter Devon that may take her in ?

Hi guys,
Well, my little pigeon really isnt well it seems.....wasnt a washing line or anything....cist or tumour on its elbow joint....poss been ill for a few days.
My vet is really kind though and is going to keep it in and treat it with anti biotics for a couple of days incase it is just an infection. I am going to call Monday and IF she is ok am going to bring her back home to release her so she can be with her friends in familiar territory..... will get back to you on Monday.
Meanwhile...hope you all have a good weekend ....... and thanks for listening.

Morning every one......spoken to the vet this morning and although my pigeon appears chirpy enough there has been no change to the swelling on her wing joint. He will try another anti biotic injection today though and has advised me to call tomorrow afternoon. Fingers still tightly crossed....she seems such a fighter....will let you all know as soon as I do and thanks for you support once again.

Hi every one,
Just thought I would let you know that my little pigeon was put to sleep on Monday....she didnt respond to the anti biotics so would never have been able to fly again...so it was for the best...I just hoped...you know how it is. Thanks for all you support. Take care.

Oh dear that's a shame Binnie. I'm sure you and the vet both did your best for it.

Thanks for letting us know.
