Mere Sands Wood (near Rufford) can be good at times.

Yes Mere Sands Wood can be very worthwhile. If you walk from to the other down Curlew Lane there are often good birds from here (Yellow Wags on passage, Corn Bunting and Yellowhammer, swans in winter).

Depending on what you mean by near Marshside isn't that far away.
