At Swinderby antique fair I spotted DDR Zeiss 8x30 going for £65.Picked them up and could see damage through the objective in one side. The vendor agreed they were only good for spares and he took £20!
This pair is not 'multi-coated';I have a pair that are;and there isn't the warmth of image with the multi-coated,but well £20..THEY MUST BE SAVED.
Once dismantled, the defect was a flake of prism had lifted. The prism was probably tight to the body work and a knock resulted in the damage.
I ground the tight edge down at work and replaced the prism 180 degrees o.o.p.
The image is clear now but I have misalignment.
Is it because the prism fit is customised for the original orientation?
What shall I do next?
Could I get another prism from zeiss for these?
Or,forgive me,pick up some new "dogs" and fit their pair?
I am sure there are many more birding scrooges out there who have resurrected the impossible.
Or are these bins for the bin???
I fear not!

ARe they jenoptems?
Yes Jane they are Jenoptems
I replaced the objective with the barrel cover removed and could see that the conical light tube rubbed onto the prism.Possibly deflecting the prism.
Thanks for interest
