Hi,

Need a pocket point and shoot camera for holiday snaps and the Canon Ixus 80 IS looks a good deal here... http://www.amazon.co.uk/Canon-Digital-IXUS-Camera-Chocolate/dp/B0012ZEDT6/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1225672398&sr=1-2

I have no intention to get into digiscoping proper, but I would like to be able to use the camera for ID query / record shots with my scope (currently Opticron HDF zoom and GS665 body but considering Nikon ED50/ED82)

Is there any reason this camera couldn't produce dodgy record shots by hand-holding? Never even tried digiscoping before so completely clueless, but don't want to buy something which simply won't get an image. Sorry if it's a dumb question

Thanks,
Graham

hio graham,

i would suggest you bring along your scope and test the camera hand held it to the eyepiece to see if you get less vignetting and the IS is a bonus for talking pictures without adapter :)

other thing to considered is by checking the video mode if it has custom setting while recording video such as EV like the nikon coolpix P5100. my fujifilm f31d is good for low light but crapped with video unfortunately ...

Thanks, Horukuru. Won't get chance to actually try anything as I'm buying online this week, and I'm in the office all week. I guess your answer means some work and some don't in terms of the extent of vignetting, but the Image Stabilisation helps hand-holding?

Thanks,
Graham

yes it will compensate the shake that cause blurry pictures due to the slow shutter speed and shake of our hands.

and you can get better shot when using adapter either fixed or swing-away type from srb-griturn or if you are buying nikon, u can get the FSB type adapter :king:
