Question Worcestershire Visitor
Well, a first (or maybe not) for me, here in Worceastershire - just outside W mids, 8 miles approx from brum, backing onto fields and Clent Hills
About 10 am, on several different peanut feeders, a Ring Necked Parakeet - I do have photos, but it would be impossible to mistake for anything else, and I have seen and heard them before in Kent
I wasn't really surprised when I saw it, though it was a shock, as at about 8 am I had heard some 'parroty, sqwawky' sounds outside, possibly on roof where I wouldn't see it from inside, and they sounded just like I had heard before in kent. I have also heard this several times before in my garden, though some time ago, maybe a year back, but had never seen anything

Has anyone else seen these locally - I knew they were spreading, but thought they were still confined to South East?
And do we think it is a loner, or could there be several, and would it be resident? - they don't 'migrate do they? Might think it was a one off, passing through, but for haveing heard similar before - is it possible they move around the country at various times of the year
Glad for any views, Angela

Hi there,

I'm trying to find out which Counties still use the Watsonian Vice County system to record birds in and which go by whatever the political boundary may change to (and why).

The Watsonian Vice County system was set to accurately record and compare historical and modern data and it seems that there can be/is confusion when some counties no longer use this system whilst others do. Does anyone in your county have a view on this ? Discussion here if anyone has a comment:

ps this is not about getting more or less county ticks, more a question about uniformity in recording.

They can appear pretty much anywhere. Usually they are escapes. However now there are large "feral" flocks in Surrey/London, so it could be a bird from there. They do not migrate as such, but they do disperse. Once they find somewhere they like they will stay for years. I had one near me and it lived for at least six years.
