Fuerteventura in December-which camera/lense?

We are going to Fuerteventura (Corrajeco) at short notice.
I don't think I'll take the big lense but is it worth taking the macro?
From what I read there is very little in the way of vegtation etc. Will I be better taking just the 'point & shoot' (which has 18 x zoom)??

From what I remember of the island you heard/read correctly but that's not to say there aren't insects, etc. (which is what I assume you want the macro lens for) otherwise there wouldn't be any birds either as they have to eat something.
