Sorry to be a pain, but very recently I found post on how to date and place the manufacture of canon lenses. And now I just can`t find it !
Can someone point me in the right direction ?
Thank you for your patience !
Andy

If you go to POTN, Photography on the net, and go to the lens section I am certain that if you type in, in the search forum bit, lens dates or something similar then you will get an answer.

This is one site that provides an explanation of the date codes that are on some Canon lens, primarily their premium "L" lens.

I gather that this information is useful in deciding which secondhand lenses are likely to be good ones and which poor, but how do you tell which is which?

I would assume that the older the lens then the less likely it is going to be in top condition ?

Seems logical. I may have got the wrong end of the stick completely, but from what I've read elsewhere I've picked up the impression that one or two lenses have had quality issues at certain times and those who know will avoid lenses made during these times. I was just wondering whether this wisdom has been collected anywhere - if indeed there is any truth in it.

I believe there is truth in it but I don't know where one would find that info documented. Certainly a query on POTN forum would probably get you the information you need on a particular lens anyway.

Cheers, John. Yes, that would certainly be the logcal place to ask.
