I posed this question under the Scopes/Nikon Forum but wanted to see what the digiscoping experts had to say.
I have a 60mm Fieldscope III. Trying to get started in digiscoping. Is there a rec. point and shoot camera model?
Any advice is welcomed & appreciated.

The Nikon p5100 is ideal but requires the bracket fsb-6 and a DS eyepiece. I have the RAIII 65 spotting scope (prostaff in the USA) and have had some great clips in the movie mode with tits/etc on my feeders easier to capture shots of birds this way rather than stills with a scope IMO Regards Andrew

Andrew, thanks for the quick response. I'll head in the direction of the Nikon P5100. Hopefully I won't have to spend too much time with directions and get out in the field and give it a try.

Hio CJF,
Check the diagram at http://www.nikon.com/products/sportoptics/index.htm to see if you need to use different adapter before connecting the FSB-6 with P5100camera.
Unless if you are using DS eyepiece, should be no problem :)

horukuru,
Thanks for the link. The chart and other pages are pretty clear.
I presume there are other threads that debate the merits of a 24x or 40x Wide DS eyepiece with a 60mm scope.
I'll search the forum but in the meantime your opinion is appreciated.

I have all three DS eyepieces. The 24x is really the only one that gets used with the 60mm fieldscope. The others will be just too much power/dim for the camera to focus. And because of Nikons lame screw-in connection, unless the bird is dead it will be gone before you can change them out.

Thanks Rick. I was guessing the 24x. In any case you've saved me some money.
I had to laugh at the "screw" comment. I have two eyepieces and I'm loathe to change when birding just for that reason.
It's suppose to be 4 degrees F or -15 C tomorrow. If not frozen they're sure to be sluggish.
