Hi.
I'm fairly new to this, so please bear with me.
I spotted a bird yesterday which I have since identified as almost certainly being a Great Grey Shrike. It appears to match all the descriptions etc. perfectly, and I can find no other bird which seems to even remotely fit the bill.
It was in open farmland close to Beverley in East Yorkshire.
Does anyone know if this is likely to be the case? The bird seems to be quite rare, from what very little information I can muster, and I'm very keen to find out more about prevalence, locations, numbers etc.
Could anyone please help?
Many thanks.

Location, habitat and time of year doesn't sound too bad - best to add this to the Yorkshire thread (http://www.birdforum.net/showthread.php?t=61534) on the Your Local Patch forum. There's lots of East Yorks types in there.
And welcome to the forum!

Where near Beverley was it - i will check it out tomorrow (or today if its close enough). Great Grey Shrike is regular on passage in East Yorkshire and this seems to have been a pretty good autumn/winter for them. There are also three birds (at least) wintering in the North Yorkshire forests this year.

It was very close to Carr House Farm (I think that's the name) in the village of Wawne - along a footpath which heads towards Beverley.
Please let me know if you need more details and how you get on if you get out there.
Cheers.

By the way, I saw it about half way along the track/road which leads up to the farm from Ferry Road in the village. It was alone, at the very top of a large bush/tree which forms part of the hedgerow on the left hand side.

James
Did you manage to get out yesterday to try and spot the Great Grey Shrike?
Any luck?
