Just thought this might be the appropriate place to describe where I live and what you can expect if you feel like seeing what there is to see in "Central" London.

Using Streetmap (apolgies if you don't like it):

In the above area, near where I live, there is certainly a good variety of local birds including Kingfisher(s), a Grey Heron, Jays, Siskins (thanks to those in the Bird ID forum for that), Grey Wagtails, and all the normal suburban birds (Robins, Magpies, Blue Tits, Pigeons etc.)

I have walked back and forth trying to find the range of the Kingfisher and where is feeds, but as such a fast moving bird, the best I can do i simply remember where I saw it and which direction it was moving in; ah, for the warmer weather. I am reasonably sure I have seen two (a mating pair ?) but cannot be sure. Fast little devils.

At this location (above), I have cycled through on the way to work most of last year and there is always a Grey Heron on The Decoy, plus a good variety of other local birds (aquatic and otherwise). I am pretty sure I saw a Kingfisher, but can't be sure - I was cycling :-)

Anyhow, what makes this area great to me is the fact that it is adjacent to one of the busiest roads in London (the A406, North Circular) and the birds don't care... I wouldn't make a trip if I wasn't already travelling through the place, but it is a nice, if dark with foliage, suburban park.

rgds,

Hello Peter and nice to meet you :-)
I lived in and around Finchley for 8 years but never visited Brent Park and did my birding in Essex. I deffinitely should have looked more closely at my own doorstep!
Do keep posting - it's great to hear what's going on there

Thanks, I will. I appear to have done my back in again, whih means that carrying 15kg of tripod + 400mm f/2.8 lens etc. to try to "get" the Siskins, as recently identified for me, will be put off for a bit.
