Well events have conspired against getting another birding trip to one of the (fairly) local reserves in February, but the fallback option of another walk round the outback is always worth doing (for me at any rate).

Accompanied by partnyorsha (felling a lot better today) we had a pretty decent walk for the best part of three hours.

Nothing new to add, and although we never felt inundated with birds, we ultimately obtained one of the longest daylists that we’ve managed on my little patch.

Woodpeckers still in evidence today, and managed to pick up a couple of Jays as well, which is always nice.

Also, pleased to notice a pair of Tufted Ducks on the pond again.

For those who haven’t seen the map, the pond (when full) is in essence a ring water around quite a large (relatively) island – so there’re plenty of hiding places. Perhaps they were hidden yesterday, but certainly good to have them bacl on view today.

Un-idable birds today? Well, there was a group of seven large gulls, circling like vultures very high in the sky. As they happened to be against the backdrop of a cloud, partnyorsha noticed them, and although we had no chanced determining what they were, we wouldn’t have seen the Buzzard otherwise… so worth the look then!

Also, tantalisingly, we heard some wadery, redshanky call but couldn’t determine where from, and saw nothing to go with it.

All in all… yeah pretty decent, and 35 species to boot!
