I had a day at the WWT London Wetland Centre yesterday. Does anyone know where else you could see (and have great views of) Bittern, Jack Snipe, Water Rail and Rose-ringed Parakeet within 50 miles of London!

After 30 minutes in the reserve you completely forget that you are in the centre of London.

Hi Graham

Do you visit The London Wetland Centre often?
Will you be there on Friday?
I'll be there, hope you'll be there, let me know.

Hi Graham , if your lucky you might also see Peregrine as they nested at Baker St and often drop into WWT. Also the Sandmartins are now using the artificial bank. As you say all in the centre of London, its quite incredible.

Lots of birds.....moorhens and chicks everywhere. Smews, Goldeneye, lots of ducks and geese.....lots of other interesting birds that I've never seen in this country.Black necked Swans nesting. Will sort out a list later. :bounce:

I went there, hosted by Grousmore, last February. I had a extended layover at Heathrow on our way to Kenya. I had a grand time! I enjoyed seeing all the "new birds" for me.

Hey, maybe Grousemore and I even ran into some other BirdForum Members? So far, my tally of BFer's remains at one (Grousemore).

I certainly agree with Graham. This May was a particulary good time with a male Bluethroat one weekend, a female Ring Ouzel and a first summer Night Heron the nest and a Red-backed Shrike the third. I was there the first two weeks but didn't see the shrike.

Yes, I believe the Goldeneye are However one of the guides did say that Smews were being encouraged to breed here, as they apparently did a few years ago. Not sure if they are part of the collection or not.Anyone help out here?
But they are lovely!
Is there a list available that says which species are collection and if any of these species ever visit?
