Can anyone tell what's wrong with our bird feeder?
Yes, it doesn't have any birds on it.
I know there's no food on it either, but there are no birds in the area either!
Other folks in our street have feeders up aswell, but they get as many birds as shown here!! It's like the birding version of the Marie Celeste!
We did have a wood pigeon once, but I think it was lost........

you might get a Green woodpecker come down in a couple of months if you leave the table the way it is, they like lawns!!
Tsk, tsk! how have you allowed M to let that table get to that stage? send her out there now to clean it off!
And can you ask her to hit me somewhere that the bruises won't show? :D

rogerk!! Look at it, would you eat there? ;-)
You don't need birds on there, you need a lawnmower.

I know! I know! But that lot came from the seed that the birds weren't eating!
I've tried all sorts, but birds don't eat liquorice!!

Ah ha!! you fell into my trap! ;)
But fear ye not Elizabeth, M will most certainly make me pay for my sexist remarks (even though they were tongue in cheek!) next time we go out birding (if I even get invited - as the next trip is in her car - DOH!!)

Extra bruises will now be inflicted - or maybe a dislocated shoulder!

I'm thinking about pulling up the whole goddam table and belting the lot of you wi' it!!
Deary me, talk about 'turf wars' it's barely sprouted and already I've got half the country fighting over it!

Roger, to add a bit of sanity to your thread - my advice would be to clean off old food BEFORE it gets chance to sprout and put some nuts in that feeder. Also get some more feeders with sunflower seeds in or niger seed. And move it away from the hut or maybe get one or two other feeders scattered around so that all the birds aren't fighting to get to that one table.

Oh, and there was me hoping to attract Bitterns or water rails!!
I've got feeders up elsewhere with wild bird seed, black sunflower and peanuts in them, but honestly, there are no birds in our area!!
(oh, BTW, that 'hut' is my house!)

Sorry, Roger. I can see that's a fence now!! I thought it was the side of a shed. Must get my eyes retested.
I would go with Helen's suggestion then and move house!

If you wait for the Leather jackets to become established in the lawn, you'll most likely get some Starlings feeding on the sward.

Would that be the 'lawn' on my bird table?

Well it's developing very nicely but you'll have problems with the lawnmower. I'd send "M" to do it.

Seriously though, are you saying there are no birds whatsoever in you area?

He's at work now I think, but yes, that's what he's saying! I've never seen any (apart from the odd racing pigeon maybe!) when I've been there.
It's weird, because my Dad used to live very close to where Roger is now, and his garden was always very active!

We get sparrows on the rooftops and some starlings flying about, but they just don't like coming in to any of the gardens round here. I really don't know why, at the local park, only 100yds away, there are tits, sparrows etc but none here, anyone got any ideas why?
