Hi all

I'm thinking of trying for the Grey Phal tomorrow and wondering about access. How do you bird this spot? Parking? Access? Viewpoint?? Is there access from the A112/Fox and Hounds Pub? Would appreciate any info.

Unfortunately, access is only available with a permit and key for the gate. There are one or two spots outside the site from which you can view very distantly, but for a small bird like the phalarope, I doubt you'd even be able to see it with scope on full zoom.

To obtain a permit, you need to go to the Severn Trent Water offices at Walthamstow Reservoirs, on the A503 Ferry Lane. From memory, I think it costs about a tenner. Once you've got one, the entrance gate is in the south east corner of the res, on the A110 Valley Road, just past the huge car supermarket place.
