It's just above and behind my house, in my backyard, on a Longleaf Pine Tree. Any ideas which birds might nest in that kind of tree and have such a huge nest?

Thank you.

Monk Parakeet?

No idea if you have those locally though.

How huge?

Bald Eagles keep on building even after the nest is the size of a bus, and certainly in Florida they like tall pines.

I'd say about a foot in diameter--and it's prolly up about 40 feet high--as far as I can tell, it appears to be made in part of pine straw--and I have woods in the back of my house further back, so it's not much of an open area.

Ah, that's too small for a Bald Eagle. Their nests can be up to 9 feet in diameter, but typically 5 feet (baldeagleinfo.com). And they like big sticks/branches, not straw.

In fact, a foot in diameter isn't that big, so it's hard to guess whose it might be.

That sounds like it might be a squirrel nest. Do you have Fox Squirrels in your neighborhood?
