Dear All,

Has anyone had experience with 400mm f3.5 Manual Focus lens for bird photos?

I got it reasonably cheap and was hoping to may be use it with my Kenko 1.4 teleconverter to shoot birds.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated!

I had one for a couple of years. Older pro tele which is built like a tank. The only issue that I noticed with it using a digital body was CA under certain circumstances which is easily corrected in PS. Here's a review of the lens, scroll down the webpage and you will find the 400mm.

Have fun!

I have a couple of old books by the wildlife photographer John Shaw and he regarded this lens highly.

Ive been using this lens for quite a while now.

Its probably the best 'all-round' bird lens that ive owned.

Its built like a tank, and hand-holdable for short periods, and fractionally sharper than my previous 400mm/2.8 ais.

As mentioned, it can occasionally show CA, in certain situations {as can most/all of the older long teles}, but it is virtually a non-issue when images are processed through Capture NX etc.

You won't be disappointed!!
